Description

Small Japanese Kakiemon fluted bowl, 17th century, with fluted rim, decorated in overglaze enamels with a branch of flowering prunus issuing from banded-hedges, with a bird in flight on the reverse.

Dimensions:

Diameter: 11.2cm. (4 3/8in.)

Condition:

Minute chip and associated hairline to rim.

Notes:
A Japanese bowl c. 1670-90 with similar decoration can be found in the collection at the Rijksmuseum (BK-1968-243-1). For a Meissen bowl based upon this design see the Boston Museum of Fine Art (accession number: 53.381).
